NATURAL REMEDIES FOR PERIMENOPAUSE AND MENOPAUSE: THE SUPER POWER OF PLANTS - NEROLI THE CALMING OIL
Oct 26, 2021
Wonderful neroli, derived from the flower of the bitter orange plant, well known for its beautiful way with emotions. So, whether you’re experiencing mood swings during perimenopause, bothered by menopause sleep problems or looking for natural remedies for menopause anxiety neroli could be the oil for you.
At any time of life including menopause Chinese medicine doesn’t separate the mind from the body and this plant supports both in abundance. Oils work similarly to herbal remedies in that they have specific functions, each moving energy and nourishing in a specific way.
THE BENEFITS OF ESSENTIAL OILS
The benefits of essential oils for perimenopause, menopause or post menopause is derived through inhalation (aromatherapy) but also, systemically through the skin – that’s why they’re great teamed up with acupuncture points. Pairing these natural medicines harnesses 1000’s of years of Chinese medical wisdom through the activation and stimulation of acupuncture points with essential oils.
Neroli works by regulating the movement of energy in the body and nourishing our blood. Most dis-ease is caused by a blockage of energy in some form and our blood not only carries messages (hormones) round the body but it’s also the seat of our emotions. Blockages in energy are responsible for mood changes during menopause and mood swings during perimenopause.
WHEN TO USE NEROLI
So, by moving our energy and nourishing us Neroli is indicated when you are ;
* In need of emotional stability – essential oils are great remedies for menopause mood swings if any of your emotions are out of balance say experiencing menopause anxiety or depressed
* Your nervous system is out of kilter – this could manifest as a menopause hot flush or perimenopause PMT
* Having menopause sleep problems
* Physically you’re not feeling suffering with menopause palpitations or restlessness
* Experiencing menopause and loss of libido
* Appetite and digestion need regulating
* You’re feeling stressed
In Chinese medicine neroli works with the heart, liver, spleen and lungs as well as the special reservoirs of energy that we can tap into to keep us cool, plumped up and hormonally balanced.
RESEARCH SHOWS THE BENEFITS FOR MENOPAUSAL WOMEN
A small study in 2014, using gold standard research techniques concluded this;
“randomized controlled trial showed that inhalation of neroli oil by postmenopausal women improved their quality of life related to menopausal symptoms, increased sexual desire, and reduced blood pressure. In addition, inhalation of neroli oil may reduce stress levels and stimulate the endocrine system. These findings indicate that neroli oil can be used to relieve various symptoms related to menopause.”
The research goes on to explain that It’s believed neroli oil affects 5HTP receptors, which are involved in regulating the nervous system which has a part to pay in normalising temperature.
THE RITUAL: SELF CARE FOR CALM WITH NEROLI
Inhale neroli for 5 mins twice a day for 5 days. At a dilution of 1 drop of neroli to 9 drops of carrier oil (grapeseed oil or fractionated coconut oil). The dilution is important as with any dosage of herbs or active ingredient.
Wonderful paired with Yin Tang – an extra special Acupuncture point for calm – found directly between your eyebrows. Put a few drops of oil onto you index finger and hold on this special point, inhale deeply and exhale for longer. Enjoy the moment of calm and longer term sense of wellbeing when you incorporate this into your daily schedule.
