Faqs

I’ve never been on a retreat / done Qi Gong or acupuncture before. Is that OK?

I'm new to retreats, Qi Gong or acupuncture – is this OK?

Absolutely. Many women who come on this retreat are new to retreats, to Qi Gong, to acupuncture – or all three.

Everything I share is gentle, fully guided and adaptable. Qi Gong is simple, self-healing movement that you do at your own pace – no flexibility or previous experience needed. Acupuncture uses very fine needles and is focused on helping your body rebalance, supporting rest, digestion, mood and hormones.

There’s always space for questions, and you’ll never be pushed to do anything that doesn’t feel right for you.

Can I come on my own?

Yes – many women come on retreat solo and find it’s one of the best gifts they’ve ever given themselves.

You’ll be part of a small, friendly group with time together (meals, practices, workshops) and plenty of space just for you. You can choose a single room or, if you’d like to share, I’ll do my best to match you with another guest. If I’m unable to pair you, the single room rate will apply.

What if I book a shared room but no roommate is available?

If you choose a shared room, I’ll always do my best to match you with a suitable roommate. Most of the time, this works out beautifully — many retreaters come solo and are happy to share.

However, if I’m unable to pair you with someone for some or all of your stay, you’ll be offered the room as a single and charged the single occupancy rate for the nights without a roommate. I’ll always keep you informed in advance so there are no surprises, and I’ll confirm final arrangements as we get closer to the retreat date.

Getting There

Flights to Malta are very reasonable at this time of year, and there are a few ways to get across to Gozo, all involving a short ferry crossing of around 25 minutes.

  • Recommended transfer: an organised minibus seating up to five people plus luggage. It picks you up at the airport, takes you to the ferry, holds your luggage during the short crossing, then drives you straight to the retreat centre. With five sharing, this works out at around £20 each way (about £15 for the transfer plus £5 for the ferry), and I'll organise it, so there's nothing for you to arrange yourself.
  • Arrival: aim to land around midday on the first day of the retreat, giving time to settle in for check-in at 3pm.
  • Departure: on the last day you've got two options, an early departure around 8am, or a more leisurely one via checkout at 11am, which leaves time for a relaxed trip back to the airport, including a stop for lunch on the way if you'd like.
  • Staying elsewhere first? If you'd prefer to spend a night or two in Valletta (or elsewhere) before or after the retreat, that's no problem, you can still join the group transfer by meeting us at the airport at the arranged time.
Accommodation

The accommodation is calm, spacious, and thoughtfully designed, with a quiet elegance that immediately helps you settle.

Rooms are light-filled and comfortable, with traditional stone walls, natural textures, soft tones, and an emphasis on ease rather than excess.

Many open onto a private terrace or balcony, offering somewhere to sit, read, or simply take in the stillness around you.

Across the Samudra farmhouses there are places to gather and places to retreat, a shared pool, quiet terraces, and open spaces that invite
you to slow down.

It's a setting that supports rest without effort, where everything has been considered, and nothing feels overstated. Rooms are allocated across the Samudra farmhouses on a first come first served basis after full payment.

What’s included in any room type?

Whichever room type you choose, your retreat includes your ensuite accommodation at Tigmi, all meals, use of the hotel facilities, and my full Winter-to-Spring programme of practices, treatments and workshops.

What does a typical day look like?

Days on Island Warmth follow a gentle, unhurried rhythm; morning Qi Gong overlooking the island, time for rest and reflection, seasonal self-care workshops, and nourishing Mediterranean meals shared together.

Your retreat opens and closes with dedicated evening practices to mark the beginning and end of your time together. Beyond that, there's plenty of space to swim, relax by the pool, or take a walk.

Location

Samudra is a series of farmhouses set on the island of Gozo, Malta, with an outdoor pool, sea-view terraces, and the Shala meditation cave, just 1km from a secluded beach.

Gozo is the quieter, greener sister island to Malta, known for its slower pace, rolling countryside and dramatic coastline, a world away from the bustle of the mainland.

Typical Temperatures

Early November in Gozo is still mild and pleasant, with daytime highs of around 20-21°C, cooling to 15-17°C in the evenings.

The sea holds onto its summer warmth too, at around 21-22°C, so a swim is still very much on the cards. Rain is possible but not the norm, expect a good amount of sunshine.
